It is impossible to list the numerous tasks teachers do, and decisions they make each day. In today’s educational context, under the endless expectations, teachers feel compelled to work in a way that is not healthy or sustainable.
Project Invent builds high school programs where students design technologies to help real people. In our programs, students have designed everything from a smart wallet to help the blind detect bill denominations to a steering wheel attachment to prevent drowsy driving.
Based on Ryan and Deci's Self-Determination Theory model, we will explore how we might support our learners' basic psychological need for relatedness (a sense that one matters, that we are interconnected, that we are included and cared for) by intentionally co-constructing the optimal conditions for their wellbeing.
As a result of rapid changes in student demographics, many international schools are faced with visibly entrenched student cliques based on nationality (or language), which may appear to undermine the school’s mission to nurture ‘international-mindedness’ and parents’ desire for their children to learn English and become ‘international’.
